High Speed Florence Train Station
Summary
The first ever high speed train station in Florence was created by architectural firms Foster + Partners, in collaboration with Arup, and is considered one of the most important architectural projects to be built in Italy in the coming years.
The new station design employs sustainable technological solutions to reduce energy consumption and polluting emissions by integrating the photovoltaic plant on the roof.
The photovoltaic systems used represent an important example of how high architectural value can be leveraged to create a clean energy source. The photovoltaic system is flawlessly integrated into the semi-transparent roof of the station, with the adoption of special glass-glass modules, with precise shapes and dimensions.
To maximize the energy output of the plant, in line with the orientation of the available surfaces, the extent of sunlight exposure on the roof of the station was studied during each season and at different times of day.
The resulting PV system offers a nominal power of 308 kW and annual production of 330 MWh.
