Reuse

Enzymatic CO2 Capture in a Rotating Packed Bed and Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction to Useful Products

Summary

REUSE – a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action project – aims to develop an innovative approach to capturing and utilizing CO2 using a Rotating Packed Bed (RPB) system. The RPB employs immobilized Carbonic Anhydrase (CA) enzymes and advanced solvents to efficiently capture CO2 from biogenic flue gases. The captured CO2 is then turned into valuable products like carbon monoxide (CO) or formic acid (FA) through a CO2 reduction (CO2R) cell.

REUSE is transforming industrial carbon capture in Europe. Designed for low CO2 concentrations, it offers a cost-competitive, eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels, reducing emissions and enhancing sustainability. By stabilizing biomass flue gas variations and validating real-world performance, REUSE streamlines carbon capture technologies, advancing efficiency and climate impact.
