TO-SYN-FUEL aims to build, operate, and demonstrate an innovative system for producing synthetic fuels and green hydrogen from organic waste biomass, with a primary focus on sewage sludge.
The project supports the objectives of the European Commission’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) for the post-2020 period, which calls for the gradual phase-out of conventional biofuels and sets binding targets for advanced biofuels in the transport sector. In this framework, scaling up and commercialising sustainable, waste-based biofuels is essential to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon, circular economy.
