Project Coordinator

The overall objective of the COMETHA project is the construction and operation of an integrated, pre-commercial industrial facility for the production of 80,000 tonnes per year of second-generation bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass at Porto Marghera (Venice, Italy). The plant is designed to achieve a biomass-to-ethanol conversion yield of approximately 4.3:1.

The facility represents the first pre-commercial installation of its kind and aims to validate the innovative Biochemtex PROESA® technology at industrial scale. The technology has already been tested at pilot scale and further demonstrated through the operation of a 40,000 t/y cellulosic ethanol demonstration plant in Crescentino, which started up in 2013.
