RESPIRE
Renewable Energy Sources, Promotion and Integration for the sustainable development of insular Regions of Europe.
Summary
RESPIRE is a global strategic initiative taken at the level of seven European countries in order to reach 100% of RES (Renewable Energy Sources) in the electricity consumption of the insular territories of the Union.
Preliminary enquiries carried out by the consortium show that the current share of RES within the islands of the project is approximately 17%. The purpose of the project is to increase this ratio to over 55%, in order to reach a critical threshold and to provide the guidance demonstrating the feasibility of the 100% target.
In order to reach this ambitious goal, the project will develop innovative tools and implement demonstration plants involving innovative technology in the field of island grid integration, production and consumption management, storage, performance and RES utilisation monitoring, simulation and strategies of dimensioning for high percentage of RES and large scale dissemination of experiences.
The approach will be global, including social and economical work and analysis of non-electrical issues.
